Beyond Second: Discover Harrisburg Through Photography

This is actually a section of Jonestown Road entered from Cameron Street just north of Market Street. There is a single house and a lot of trash lining the street, which connects with Walnut Street at the top of the hill.

According to the City of Harrisburg web site, this was the "original highway linking downtown Harrisburg to Allison Hill and points east. Early road construction evident through traversing instead of cutting through the hill bluff. Rural appearance contrasts with surrounding urban grid street layout."

For those of us who know Old Jonestown Rd., later replaced with a new Jonestown Rd. (US 22) in the eastern suburbs, this little segment of the original road way downtown is quite surprising.
